After having received his starter kit from the Professor, he decided that he needed to get another Pokemon to help Viper, so he traveled by boat to Amethius Island. There he scowered the beach looking for a Pokemon to no avail. He than turned to Viper and said, "Well I guess we came here for no reason. We might as well sit here for awhile. Don't you agree Viper?" Viper than said, "Sni Sni." Mysterion knew that she was in complete agreeance. After sitting there for a bit, something snuck up on Mysterion.

Behind Mysterion, a very cute and small Panpour grinned blissfully behind him, thinking that they were playing some sort of game. Panpour leaped a bit back, and with it's eyes closed, somehow stared at Mysterion, waiting for his response, a bit impatiently, as it was seen yawning.

Intrigued by the way that the Panpour was staring at them, made him stand up and stare at her as well. He than stared inside of Panpour and saw that she was a highly blissful Pokemon just looking for fun, so he said to Panpour, "You want to play with me. Hmm?" He than turned to Viper and said, "Ok go play tag with her by using your Tackle attack on her when you get close enough. Than just run and dodge her attempts to get you." He than watched as Viper executed his plan.

It seemed as if the pokèmon had been sleep walking or something of the sort- or at the very least not entirely paying attention to its surroundings. It faltered for a moment, glancing up at Mysterion before it's jaw unhinged and nearly dropped to the floor. It squealed and fled, clearly wary of humans, trainers especially. It might've had an uncomfortable run in with a trainer before, hence it's fear for them.

Another aura caught Mysterion's attention. A few feet away lay a Staryu, glistening beneath the warm sun's rays. It was hard to tell whether or not the creature was looking at the boy or not, what with it not having visible eyes.

As he walked to the Staryu he noticed how clear the ocean was, so it would be easy to pick out the Staryu's weakness. He also knew he had to get Staryu out of the water or else Viper would easily lose the fight. He grabbed his rod and threw it out. He than caught it's one tip and dragged it on shore. He than told Viper, "Ok use Leer to lower it's defense. Than follow up with a strong tackle on it's center."

The pokèmon made no effort to resist being brought to shore, but it certainly wouldn't go down without a fight. The leer was successful; but the tackle missed entirely. People tended to forget that Staryu wasn't like other water types; it wasn't powerless outside of the water; thanks to it's (minor) psychic capabilities it was actually able to levitate to a small degree. "Sta-" It grunted, spinning out of harm's way, dodging the tackle attack completely. It let loose a powerful jet of water at the back of Snivy's head; a water gun. It wasn't as effective as it should have been, but it was better than nothing.

Viper just merely brushed off the water gun attack with barely a scratch on it. Mysterion than said, "Ok. So Staryu is going to be far more difficult than other water-type Pokemon." He focused on Staryu remembering it's weakness is the gem in the center. If aimed at the gem from underground, the Staryu would not be able to avoid. He than said, "Ok Viper here is what you are going to have to do. First use Leer again just to lower it's defenses and to distract it. Then you must hurry up and get under the sand to cause a sneaky Tackle on Staryu's gem."

The leer didn't effect the Staryu as the first one did; and the hermaphroditic pokèmon simply ignored Snivy's would-be unnerving stare. Snivy's attempt to burrow itself underground turned unsuccessful due to her lack of knowing how to properly 'dig'. So the best she could do was cover her upper body, with her hind legs and tail still sticking out for all to see. If the Staryu could scoff, it would have. But since it couldn't, it opted for the next best thing: using Snivy's current predicament to it's advantage.

It quickly lunged forward with a tackle attack, connecting directly against Snivy's head as she lay beneath the sand.

Viper got out of the sand with much damage dealt to her. She turned towards Mysterion and said, "Sni Sni..." Which Mysterion knew meant "What are we going to do?" He looked around and tried to figure something out. He knew now that Viper couldn't dig and he also knew Viper wasn't faster, so he thought of the only thing that she could do. He said, "Well Viper here is what you have to do. Use a Tackle to the left of Staryu and don't try to hit it. Than when it turns land a direct Tackle on its gem. It is our best hope at winning."

Snivy landed a critical hit!

When the grass type feigned an attack to one of Staryu's right appendages, Staryu quickly spun away- only to be met with an actual tackle to it's core. The gem blinked furiously, signalling it wouldn't be able to endure much more. The water type was still conscious though, and it certainly wouldn't fall for another feint again. It cried out angrily, spewing multiple water guns towards Mysterion (hoping to shut him up, no doubt), then diving in for another tackle attack towards Snivy.

Mysterion quickly sidestepped and ducked to dodge while commanding Viper. He told her, "Ok when Staryu get close enough jump in the air and use a Tackle from the sky straight down on Staryu." However, as Mysterion was commanding this, he got hit with a Water Gun and went down. He was hoping Snivy would win this battle for two reasons so that he could not get hurt by Staryu any more and so that he could capture it. As he saw the Staryu get close to Viper he yelled, "NOW VIPER DO IT NOW!"

Staryu spun out of harm's way easily, dodging yet another attack.

Just as Staryu was about to rear back and go in for another tackle attack, hopefully finishing the battle- it collided against something with a crack!

An example of why pokèmon and trainers alike should keep an eye on their surroundings during a battle: Staryu hadn't been paying well enough attention, and ended up flying straight into a jagged rock, causing one of it's appendages to snap off painfully. The impact (and the pain) knocked the creature out instantly, and it fell to the sandy floor with a soft thud. Another small tidbit people tend to forget about Staryu is their natural recovery system. So long as their core is intact, they can regrow lost limbs with little trouble. So as the water type slumbered, it's body was rapidly growing back to full health and form.

Staryu is unconscious.

Mysterion stood up knowing this would be his only chance. "Ok Viper get back here. I'm going to try to catch Staryu now," said Mysterion. He grabbed an empty Pokeball from his bag and got it ready. He than stepped and threw while saying, "Please Staryu join us. We really just want to be your friends." Then the pokeball collided with Staryu and sucked it in. Mysterion just stood there and waited to see if the capture worked or failed.

The ball shook a couple times, indicating that the creature had woken and wasn't quite ready to be enslaved to a life of fighting for a stranger.

Ding! The pokèmon had been captured, regardless.

Mysterion grabbed the pokeball with Viper on his shoulder. "I think I'll call you Stary." He than threw it in the air saying come on out Stary. When the ball was at its highest peak, Stary popped out of the ball and tried to attack Mysterion, but he grabbed it and focused on it seeing it's aura was angry. He told Stary, "I'm highly sorry, but don't worry little Stary we will become good friends soon enough." Seeing that Stary was still angry, he tried something different, he focused on Stary and made it so that it's aura was peaceful by bonding with it through looks. The three than started to walk away towards the boat. "Now it is almost time to get our first gym badge."
