Name: Chelan Knowles
Age: 14
Trainer Class: Trainer
Appearance: Chelan is a slightly scruffy looking young man. His face is heart-shaped and soft featured, with a small nose and mouth. His blue eyes, always slightly covered by his hair, usually look slightly dull, though he’s almost always keen and aware of his surroundings. His hair matches his eyes in color, but instead of being dull, the medium length locks take on an orderly chaotic look. Physically, he’s slightly above average, as he set himself on a mild exercise regimen when he decided that he wanted to become a pokemon trainer.
Personality: Chelan is generally a rather laid back guy. He tends to take things slowly and methodically, moving deliberately and cautiously. With half a mind to avoid battle entirely, he prefers a nice, relaxing day in the sun to a heated battlefield. Around other people, he rarely acts any differently than he does alone, aside from his penchant for idle chatter. If he were honest, he prefers to have some (human) company around, to alleviate the boredom.
This isn’t to say, however, that he actually does avoid battling. He knows that he wants to be a pokemon trainer, but the details of his complete future are rather fuzzy. He has vague visions of himself becoming a Pokemon Master, but his personality doesn’t lend itself to such high-shooting goals. For now, he intends to take things as they come, just doing what feels right. For now, taking on the Gym challenge seems like a good start.
History: Chelan’s grandfather was, many years ago, friends with the father of the previous gym leader of Iris town. Now, this may seem like a completely moot point, as it was two generations ago, but somehow the kinship impressed a fair amount of pressure on the family. It was as if each individual in the entire family was required to live up to the legacy of a gym leader and become a powerful trainer themselves. Originally, Chelan was opposed to the predestination that was set for him, but after a certain event, his mind changed.
It wasn’t some shocking, life changing event or anything quite so dramatic. At the tender age of 10, while many hardcore trainers were out already getting their starter pokemon, Chelan was walking down the street of his hometown. While his parents were still pressuring him to become a trainer, they knew that he wasn’t ready, and insisted that he get in the right mindset to leave on his journey. He didn’t mind, of course. However, as he passed an alleyway he heard the cooing sound of a pokemon that he didn’t recognize. Upon further investigation, he found a Ralts holding an injured arm. Without thinking, he scooped the little thing up in his arms and hoofed it to the pokemon center, where it recovered and was re-released into the wild.
The incident didn’t net him his first pokemon, but it did light a spark of curiosity. Suddenly, his interest in pokemon bloomed into a desire to learn more about them, as much as he could. He began taking his future pokemon journey seriously, starting a diet and exercise regimen that he keeps (albeit loosely) to this day. As time went on, he trained less and less, but liked (and still does like) to go for a good run or jog every now and then. When his parents deemed him ready, they sent him on his way to Amtheius Island and Professor Hawthorne’s laboratory to accept the destiny that they expected from him.

Pokemon: Eevee
Name: Abby the Female Eevee
Level: 5
Moves: Tackle, Tail Whip, Helping Hand
Personality: Abby is a scrappy pokemon, always up for a fight. The only thing she loves more than an intense battle is the reward after the battle. That time to lay back and relax after a hard fight, letting each muscle in turn let it’s tension loose. She’s not above napping on Chelan’s backpack while he walks instead of staying in the pokeball, but she’s obedient enough to go in when asked. Amongst other pokemon, she starts with curiosity, wanting to learn more about the newcomer. After that, she wants to test it in a fight. Too many fights with the same pokemon are boring to her, though, so eventually she’ll relax and let a friendship happen without the worry of a sudden scratch. She tends to be distrustful of humans, but she will warm up to them if given the time.
