I was just wondering if we have to find and use HM Moves in the game in order to fly to a farther place (FLY), surf in the water (SURF), light up dark caves (FLASH), move rocks (STRENGTH), etc. Or do we just use a Pokemon who has a body part which can perform such things like a Pokemon big enough to carry its trainer and fly, a Pokemon big enough to carry its trainer across the oceans and seas, a flame of a Fire Type Pokemon to light up caves, a huge Pokemon that has strength to move rocks and crush them, etc. I hope I get a clear answer. Thank you.

Mainly it is just a pokemon that has the body parts to move or do something. Like you can use the tail of a chimchar or charmander to light your way in a cave. you can naturally use in water type pokemon to surf, any pokemon with wings that can fly to fly, big bulky pokemon to move and smash stuff around, etc etc....Only tm's really exist here.

Thanks for answering. If that's the case then I guess my future Blastoise will have a double purpose - crush rocks and ferry across the ocean. Just noticed that there are no Digletts, Rhyhorns, etc. "encounters" anywhere. Does that mean they're unobtainable? Sorry to get off-topic but I guess that's okay since that's just one irrelevant question from this topic.
