A Few Things.. Empty
PostSubject: A Few Things..   A Few Things.. EmptyFri Aug 05, 2011 6:18 pm

First off.. I'm not bashing or anything, so please don't be mad at me.. I just noticed a few things.

I was thinking, maybe in the towns/places descriptions on the front page, maybe put in there that there's a gym in that region and what type of gym. It'd be easier for people to see where exactly the gyms are without having to open up every town and see. Once again, that might be a pointless comment, but it's just my opinion..

I was also thinking that the solo training seems very... strict.. I understand that solo training needs to be reason able, but I think that 600 words to level a level 5 Pokemon (for example) seems a little rough.. I'd suggest dropping it down to around 400 words. I say this because, lower level Pokemon generally don't have very many moves, thus making solo training harder. Or, I might just be a little softy, but I've noticed that almost no one has really done the solo training and I think the high word could might be to blame. I understand that you don't want to give away levels in solo training, but perhaps if you did lower it, you could be stricter on what is considered training. As of now, someone could spend 100 words simply describing what an Ember attacks looks like, but if you were to lower the word count you would have to say that waisting 100 words telling us what fire looks like doesn't count towards training, you must actually be doing something for the duration of the training.
On the same hand, I completely agree with the other two settings, it's just that first one I don't really agree with.

I'm trainer, as you already know, and I noticed in the rules that it said that a Trainer can become a Gym leader after they become the champion. I was curious as to how that would play out. Could they just their gym anywhere they want? Would they have their own gym badge? Would that gym badge count towards the eight needed to challenge the champion? If that's the case, it would be possible for trainers to pick and choose which gyms they want to battle. "Eh.. That gym looks hard, lets go for another" would be an issue there. Or, would having more gyms means you need more gym badges to challenge the champion?

I was also thinking that the whole "Trainers cant breed, partake in contests, or work for a researcher" seemed a tad strict.. Why not loosen it up to something like: A Trainer can breed a Pokemon, but only once, they can help out a researcher, but they get no reward from it, and they're allowed to partake in one contest. I'm not too sure if this is based off the anime or the games, but in the anime Ash partakes in contests all the time and he's had eggs before.
Then again, you guys might want to keep it strict so that when people choose their classes, it's a more important choice.

Sorry... I know I'm such a complainer.. I just really like helping make sites better..

I don't know whether or not you've been actually looking around the site, but Iceshard and I have done solo training, and have met the requirements for leveling. The student becomes the master thing is still a work in progress, but expect a long paragon-path quest,or a long hard battle with the currently leader, or at least sitting around in city hall for hours on end. You'd also need at least two pokemon of a single type, which is no big deal. Finally, you are allowed to create hybrid-class characters once a set amount of posts has been reached.

I hope this helped.

(Shiz alt account)

The gym thing- wtf? I'm damn sure I set it up so that the sub-forums would show up on the main page. I'll have to recheck that in the Administrative Panel and see what's up with that, because what you suggested is exactly how I originally made it. :(

I don't think 600 words for one level is unreasonable. It sounds pretty easy to me, and I've done like... 6000-8000 word solo training topics before. It takes a few days, but in the end, I've gotten more levels solo training than I would have by getting a moderator to help me out in a topic. Hell, in this thread opening post alone, you typed 529 words.

Becoming a Gym Leader- we haven't actually discussed all of the requirements, but I think it would be something like this. Obviously, defeating the Champion is a must. But that doesn't automatically mean you'll be getting your own gym. Activity, reliability; basically, you must meet the same requirements you need to be a member of staff. That's understandable, considering gym leaders will often get challengers, no? Anyway, let's look at it this way. If you do in fact get your own gym, I would think, to make things easier on the other members, it would replace an NPC gym leader- although you could decide where the gym itself was, so long as it wasn't conflicting with another gym's location.

The type of pokemon you use as well, could be of your own choice- if, once again, it doesn't conflict with another given gym leader's type specialization. The levels of your pokemon however, must match with your choice of location. If you choose to replace the first gym leader, your pokemons' levels must be low enough to meet eye to eye with new trainers and their pokemons' levels. I hope I'm making sense, but I'm a bit tired, so maybe not? I'll talk to Alex about gym leader requirements some time.

As for the class limitations; trainers not being able to breed and the such- as said above, there's a cross-class option once you've hit a certain post count; BUT, I can say now that I won't agree to changing the actual limitations per class. They were put there for a reason; it's too hard to keep track of what everybody is doing, and if a trainer is allowed to breed, but only once- who's to say somebody won't try to do it more than once? We can't keep an eye on EVERYTHING that happens on the site at every given moment, although we do try. It's too much to handle at the moment, sorry.

Also about the breeding where shiz left off, have you seen how many trainers we have on the site, it really is a lot to deal with.
